Mission and vision statements define the purpose of an organization. Such statements can encourage a positive environment in which all stakeholders work to fulfill the purpose of the institution.
After reviewing the mission and vision statements from several higher education institutions, select two that most reflect your interests.
In 750-1,000 words compare the mission and vision statements and the institutions from which they came. Include the following in your comparison:
- Define mission and vision in the context of higher education student affairs.
- Explain the difference between a mission statement and a vision statement. Why is it important for higher education institutions to have both?
- Compare and contrast the mission and vision statements you selected.
- Describe how each higher education institution could enhance their mission and vision with compassion, justice, and concern for the common good.
- Write a 1-3 sentence mission statement and a 1-3 sentence vision statement for your ideal student affairs department.
- How your mission and vision statements would affect the responsibilities and functions of the student affairs department on any higher education campus.
