Prompt: This semester has already asked you to do a lot of your own thinking about essay writing, and written
argument, defining key terms, and evaluating the persuasiveness of the essays. This assignment will ask you to take
your class experience and newfound knowledge to the next level in a completely independent research assignment.
You will use the sources you have researched and the things you have learned in writing the previous essays to
create a new researched argument (that does not self-plagiarize). This essay must use a minimum of 8-10 sources.
Do not rely heavily on just one or 2 sources. I want to see that you can incorporate many sources well, that you
were thoughtful in choosing which sources to use, and that you have considered many ideas.
You should be thoughtful in planning the best way to communicate your ideas. Think about your audience carefully
and what will best persuade them. The intro must grab the readers and must have a clear, stated, argumentative
thesis. Since this is a longer paper, your intro may be longer as well. You need to decide what points will best
support that thesis and how you will support them with your source material. You must also decide where you want
to address counter arguments and how to best refute them.

You may include graphs and timelines or images if they are appropriate, but they do not count toward the required
number of pages, which is 8-10 pages written by you. You cannot fill up those pages with images or graphs to cut
down how much writing you need to do.
You will of course need to cite your sources in the essay and include a works cited page at the end.
Your paper should be persuasive and well thought out. It should have ample transitions to connect your
thoughts clearly and make it easy for the reader to see how different ideas or sections connect to the main purpose.
You should have a variety of sentence structures and sentence lengths and few grammar or mechanical errors.
