Writing Assessment Rubric
Paper/ Discussion Instructions. Points will be deducted if these instructions are not followed (see Grading Format below):
- Grammarly Premium App is not allowed for use in writing assignments. Students can use writing supports included in Word and/or the UA Writing Lab.
- For each writing assignment, cut and paste the question then write your answer. This will ensure that you are answering each question fully and avoid deduction of points (see grading format below).
- The paper/ discussion assignments are not based on your ‘opinion’, but written compositions based on the facts from the readings, etc. (e.g., critical thinking). Answers must reflect specific examples from the book, additional readings or lecture materials. Without this specific information, the writing tends to be a vague description of the topic that lacks clarity and is unfocused and repetitive.
- Cite the source within the journal assignment answers (Smith, 2019) with full citation on the last page of the assignment.
- Do not use first person “I” when writing discussion posts or answers to questions. (e.g., I think that, I believe, I would have done this, etc.)
- Write clear, concise sentences – we all tend to write similarly to the way we speak and thus our sentences are not always structurally correct. At the graduate level, students should be able to edit their own writings to ensure that sentences are structurally correct. (One suggestion is to read an assignment out-loud – this will help identify poorly written sentences. If this strategy does not work, use the writing center)
- Do not use slang (e.g., ‘get to the bottom of…’/ use words like ‘resolve’ or ‘determine’ instead). DO YOU NEED HELP COMPLETING THIS ASSESSMENT? ORDER NOW!
