Unit One Summary
In 1491, Europeans did not know that the Western Hemisphere existed. In this unit, we will read the writings of some European explorers, examine their views toward the people they find in the “New World,” and analyze their motivations for colonization.
After viewing the documentary (link below) and reading the textbook, discuss some of the motivations Europeans had for colonization and the attitudes of early European explorers toward the indigenous people of the Americas. Your response should be 8-10 sentences, You do not have to reply to your classmates this week but you are always welcome to do so. This forum will count as your weekly attendance and will count toward your Week One discussion grade.
