As PMHNP you will work with individuals, families, groups, and communities, assessing their mental

health needs.  You will assess, diagnose, and treat children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders and identify risk factors for such disorders.

Presentation PER DIAGNOSIS): INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

You will be assigned to a group and provided with a mental health diagnosis in child and adolescence.

Discuss the assigned mental health disorder/s (See Scheduled Topics & Assignments) You will create a

patient scenario with the mental health diagnosis provided. You will present the group project in class.

  1. List risk factors for this DSM-V Diagnosis.
  2. Discuss pathophysiology.
  3. After gathering all assessment data, tie the symptoms from your assessment to the DSM-5.

How does your patient meet DSM-V criteria for your assigned diagnosis?

  1. Utilize evidence-based practice.

5.1  Select 2 medications that are the gold standard or supported by evidence-based research for

your selected DSM-V diagnosis.

5.2.  Select a form of psychotherapy that is supported by EBP for your patient’s DSM-V

diagnosis and symptoms.

  1. Explain the mechanism of action, side-effects, black box warnings, therapeutic effects, and

special considerations of each medication.

  1. Discuss each article (no less than three) to support your medications and forms of

psychotherapy.
